Mobile IV Dandenong Ranges & Foothills
Where we come to across the Dandenong Ranges and foothills
Our nurses come to you across the Dandenong Ranges and the foothill suburbs below them. This is a fully mobile service — the nurse brings everything needed to your home, so there is no clinic to travel to and nothing to organise beforehand.
It is worth being clear about what people mean by the Dandenongs, because it changes the answer to “do you come to me?”. The Ranges proper are the mountain towns along the ridge and slopes — Belgrave, Upwey, Olinda, Monbulk, Emerald and their neighbours. The foothills are the much larger suburbs sitting at the base of the hills, such as Ferntree Gully and Boronia. They are at the foot of the Dandenongs rather than in them, and we come to both.
Servicing the hills is different to a flat metropolitan grid. Roads through the Ranges are winding and slower than their distance suggests, properties are often set back on long or steep driveways, and mobile reception can be patchy in the more heavily treed pockets. We plan appointments here with more travel time built in, which is why a little extra notice helps. The foothill suburbs are more straightforward and can usually be booked at shorter notice.
Address and access details matter more here than almost anywhere else we service. A property name or number visible from the road, a description of the driveway, a gate code and a note about where to park all save time at the start of your appointment — and help the nurse reach you without needing to call from somewhere with no signal.

Western slopes
Upper Ferntree Gully, Upwey, Tecoma, Belgrave, Belgrave South
The main gateway into the hills and our most accessible Ranges area. Belgrave is the principal transport and shopping hub.
Ridge-top and central hills
Olinda, Monbulk
Ridge-top and central townships. Winding approaches, so allow extra time when booking.
South-eastern Dandenongs
Emerald, Cockatoo, Gembrook
The outer south-eastern edge, partly rural. Our furthest Ranges area — book further ahead.
Foothills
Ferntree Gully, Boronia, The Basin, Montrose, Mount Evelyn
The larger suburbs at the foot of the hills, west and north. Easier to reach and usually available at shorter notice.

Questions
Booking an infusion in the Ranges and foothills
Yes. Ferntree Gully, Boronia, The Basin, Montrose and Mount Evelyn sit at the foot of the Dandenongs rather than up in the Ranges, and we come to all of them. They are more straightforward to reach than the mountain towns, so appointments there can often be booked at shorter notice.
A few days is usually best for the hills towns. Travel through the Ranges takes longer than the distance suggests, so we allow more time between appointments here than we do closer to the city. The outer south-eastern towns of Emerald, Cockatoo and Gembrook are our furthest, so allow the most notice there.
Anything that helps the nurse find you and park: a property name or number visible from the road, a description of the driveway, a gate code if there is one, and where to park. Reception can be patchy up here, so details given at booking are more reliable than a call on arrival.
We come to the western slopes around Belgrave, Upwey, Tecoma, Belgrave South and Upper Ferntree Gully, the ridge-top and central townships of Olinda and Monbulk, and the south-eastern Dandenongs around Emerald, Cockatoo and Gembrook. Send us your address when you book and we will confirm the appointment with you.
No. Across the Ranges and the foothills we are fully mobile and come to you. Our clinic premises is in West Melbourne, at Ground Floor, 420 Spencer St.
About the Ranges
A cool green mountain on the edge of the suburbs
The Dandenongs are close enough to Melbourne that people forget how different they are. Drive up out of Ferntree Gully and within a few minutes the temperature drops, the light goes green, and the road is running through mountain ash — the tallest flowering trees on earth — with tree ferns filling the gullies underneath. Sherbrooke Forest is the heart of it, damp and quiet, with a walking track down to Sherbrooke Falls and lyrebirds somewhere in the undergrowth doing impressions of everything else in the forest.
Along the ridge sit the villages. Sassafras and its tea rooms, Olinda with its galleries and the Dandenong Ranges Botanic Garden, where the rhododendrons and Japanese maples turn the hillside over completely between spring and autumn. Near Sassafras, the Alfred Nicholas Memorial Gardens drop away to an ornamental lake and boathouse. At the top, SkyHigh Mount Dandenong looks west across the whole city to Port Phillip Bay. And running through the middle of it, Puffing Billy — a narrow-gauge steam railway that has been climbing out of Belgrave since 1900, over the trestle bridge and on through Emerald and Cockatoo to Gembrook.
Working here is genuinely different to working the flat suburbs. The roads wind, the distances take longer than the map suggests, and a lot of houses sit well back from the road behind trees. Below the ridge the foothills — Ferntree Gully, Boronia, The Basin, Montrose, Mount Evelyn — run straight back into ordinary suburban Melbourne, and are much quicker to reach. Our nurses cover both.
